Frame Designs Picture Framers Blog
Frame Designs Picture Framers Blog – The proprietor of Frame Designs is Christopher George. He has been in Ebury Street since 1985 when he opened his shop to offer interior design. In 1995 he was joined by Barbara Grundy with her picture framing business who sadly died some years later.
Picture framing has been a part of Christopher’s business since 1995 and the larger part than previously. However, this benefits customers, as with his interior design “eye” he is well able to advise on how a picture can be framed to show it to its best advantage.
Christopher’s picture framing is entirely bespoke. All frames are made for the specific artwork. He does not keep “standards sizes” as each item is treated as a unique piece. He does have some 400 frame style to choose from, However, as behoves a bespoke business whatever the customer wants Christopher can almost certainly supply.
“I asked Christopher what kind of pictures he frames and he told me almost anything“
There is a huge variety from Royal seals on vellum to a collage of photographs of officers from a guards regiment with a cap badge. He has framed a series of Damien Hirst butterflies and six Banksy pieces items from framing come in many forms Some are oils, others water colours, and engravings. Some pictures are drawings with pencil, charcoal, pastels or anything else which of course includes photographs.
Framing can be to gallery standard.
There is a full selection of board mounts from simple to the most elaborate including decorated mounts with washes of colour on them. Museum mounts are, of course, available. Christopher is often asked for floater frames and these seem to be quite fashionable but also non-reflecting and UV glass.
Christopher is able to deal with delicate and precious items. He is able to deal with those that, for the sake of preservation, cannot have any substance used on them to fix them in place.
Having this quality of picture framing available is Belgravia was something of a surprise. In all, I was very impressed by the service and the variety of items which can be framed, the choice of frames, mounts and glass.
